The case for going
plant-based at Lancaster

What is the problem?

57% of food emissions come from animal products

Food systems are responsible for around a third of all global greenhouse gas emissions, and animal products are the dominant driver. Meat and dairy alone generate more emissions than all the world's planes, ships, and cars combined. Every meal Lancaster University serves is a choice between perpetuating this crisis or being part of the solution.

What can we do?

Every plate is a decision Lancaster University makes and can change. Lancaster University has already committed to becoming net-zero by 2035. Going 100% plant-based is one of the most visible, controllable ways to actually deliver on that promise.

Is that even possible?

University of Graz went fully plant-based. Edinburgh hit 70% — and Lancaster University can be next!

Lancaster University Students’ Union Votes Yes For Transition To 100% Plant-Based Catering

Lancaster University’s Students’ Union (SU) voted to endorse a transition to 100% plant-based catering across the campus, with 18/19 members voting in support. The motion proposes a gradual transition, with a target of 50% plant-based catering by 2025, and full implementation by 2027 subject to review.
