We are asking ETH Zurich to transition to a fully plant-based catering as an appropriate response to the climate and biodiversity crises and achieve its sustainability goals. Signatures displayed: 858. Current signature goal: 1,000. Counts can change. ## What is the problem? ### 57% of food emissions come from animal products Food systems are responsible for around a third of all global greenhouse gas emissions, and animal products are the dominant driver. Meat and dairy alone generate more emissions than all the world's planes, ships, and cars combined. Universities, as centers of knowledge, have produced much of the science revealing the climate impacts of animal farming. With this, they bear the responsibility to take meaningful action. ## What can we do? ### The catering poll from 2025 has given some interesting details. Students do not want to have meat on their plates. Way more important are the price and quality of the food. Plant-based foods have therefore a lot of potential at ETH. In Spring 2026 after 30 months of campaigning, the Student Union at ETH Zurich, Switzerland's most prestigious university, has just voted in favor of pushing for more sustainable and plant-based foods. Here in Switzerland we have a similar example with the university of Neuchâtel.
